The Lord’s mercies prevent us from being consumed

Lamentations Bible Background

11.11.2015 Old Testament: Lam 3.22–24

To read the Bible in a year, read Lamentations 3–5 on November 11, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

Why does the world continue? Why do sinful nations, or their sinful leaders, continue? Why do you and I continue to live? We have all sinned, and the wages of sin is death. Although people often suffer for their sins, the following also speaks the truth,

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I hope in Him!”
(Lamentations 3.22–24)

The Lord shows mercy to the world every moment, for the abundance of all the sin that must take place, surely tries His patience, nevertheless, we continue to live, and we praise Him for it.
