Why did the Lord record all the history that we read in the Old Testament? Among the many reasons is that He uses it to teach us. For example, consider the preface to Psalm 60,

To the Chief Musician. Set to “Lily of the Testimony.” A Michtam of David. For teaching. When he fought against Mesopotamia and Syria of Zobah, and Joab returned and killed twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt (Psalm 60.0).

How did David deal with situations like those? Read Psalm 60 to find out. The chances are none of us shall deal with the same problems, but our troubles can seem just as huge to us as these problems were to David. See what he did in his circumstances and no doubt he would do the same, if he had your troubles.
