God forsook his house

Old Testament: Jer 12.7–9

To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 11–13 on October 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

The Lord God of Israel did everything for the children of Israel that they might be faithful to him, but their history shows them forsaking him repeatedly. Therefore, he said:

“I have forsaken My house, I have left My heritage;
I have given the dearly beloved of My soul into the hand of her enemies.
My heritage is to Me like a lion in the forest;
It cries out against Me;
Therefore I have hated it.
My heritage is to Me like a speckled vulture;
The vultures all around are against her.
Come, assemble all the beasts of the field,
Bring them to devour!”

– Jeremiah 12.7–9

Seeing how he loved Israel, Jerusalem, and dwelling with his people, this must have hurt him deeply to forsake them.

He loves but he also does what he has to do to bring his people back to him.

Questions:

  • Have you forsaken the Lord?
  • What does he have to do to bring you back, if you have left him?
