Solomon completed the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem. Then the king along with Israel dedicated the temple and as the priests came out of the holy place, a dark cloud filled the temple. Then Solomon said,
“The LORD said He would dwell in the dark cloud.
I have surely built You an exalted house,
And a place for You to dwell in forever.”
(1Kings 8:12-13)
While the Lord dwelt in a dark cloud to prevent people from seeing Him, a person also built a magnificent house for the Lord to dwell in on the earth. There the priests would meet with the Lord and minister to Him for the benefit of the people.
What a sight that must have been to see the cloud descend, preventing the priests from entering the temple. Solomon did a magnificent thing by dedicating that house to the Lord.
We do not build temples today, but can you do something else for the Lord?
