In what God delights

The Hebrew writer wrote (Hebrews 10:5-7), that when Jesus came into the world He quoted Psalm 40:6-8, applying it to Himself, knowing that,

“In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure” (Hebrews 10:6).

However, the Bible continues,

“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—in the volume of the book it is written of Me—to do Your will, O God’” (Hebrews 10:7).

What God delights in, both back then and now, is for us to do His will. During the times that the Law of Moses was in effect, He ordered sacrifices, and He was pleased when the Israelites did His will in that regard.

Again, not because He wanted an animal butchered just for the sake of the butchering, but He wanted the obedience that was behind it.

You may not always understand why the Lord wants you to do something, but do it anyway, knowing that He delights to see you respect His wishes.

Obey the Lord.
