In the land of Israel, God’s people would say that the fathers had eaten sour grapes and the children’s teeth were set on edge, meaning that the children experienced the guilt of the father’s sin.
However, the Lord said,
“‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel. Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine; the soul who sins shall die” (Ezekiel 18:3-4).
As the psalmist said,
“The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein” (Psalms 24:1).
The Lord not only owns the earth, but He owns each of us; even our most inward part belongs to Him.
Therefore, the soul that lived in sin, the Lord would see to it that such a soul would die in sin, that is, for its own sin, and not that of the parents.
You are responsible for your own behavior, and we cannot blame it on our parents.
