Jacob spoke of his son Judah and what the tribe would be like that would descend from Judah,

“Judah is a lion’s whelp; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; and as a lion, who shall rouse him?” (Genesis 49:9). 

Sure enough the history of Israel recorded in the Bible shows Judah as a lion, ruling over the nation of Israel, and from Judah descended the One who is the Lion from God!
