What a wonderful moment for Israel this was,
“So the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the LORD had commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and crossed over” (Joshua 4:10).
Forty years wandering in the wilderness ended and Israel entered the Land of Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey.
God had truly blessed the people, even after endless complaining during the past four decades, but He would keep His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because He is the God of truth.
People often use the crossing of the Jordan River to symbolize our entrance into heaven, having been baptized into Christ, even as Israel was baptized into Moses when they crossed the Red Sea, and they lived in the world of the wilderness, even as we live in the world, and then we enter heaven, like Israel entering the Land of Canaan.
