As Jesus hung on the cross, the Bible says, 

“And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, ‘He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God’” (Luke 23:35).

 
The rulers could not be happy with Jesus finally on the cross, they also had to sneer, and see whether He would or could save Himself, although I wonder if He had saved Himself and come down from the cross, would they have believed finally? 

No, for they were determined to get rid of Him. They did not believe any of His other miracles, why would they believe a miraculous escape from the cross?
