Many are the reasons for the greatness of David, including what this narrative shows,

“Then David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the City of David. And he built the city around it, from the Millo to the surrounding area. Joab repaired the rest of the city. So David went on and became great, and the LORD of hosts was with him” (1 Chronicles 11:7-9).

 
1. He conquered Jerusalem and it became his city. 
2. He built up the city. 
3. The Lord of hosts was with him. 
 
Whether you want greatness or not, surely you want it for the Lord. Therefore, seek a good work and God shall be with you, causing great things to happen.
