Hopes dashed

In Job 29, Job remembered his former days, before the days of suffering and misery consumed his life. He thought of how he helped people, and how people respected him in return, leading him to believe that life would always be wonderful, for he said,

“Then I said, ‘I shall die in my nest, and multiply my days as the sand. My root is spread out to the waters, and the dew lies all night on my branch. My glory is fresh within me, and my bow is renewed in my hand’” (Job 29:18-20).

He implied that he would no longer have good days, but keep reading to find out what happened later.
