Job believed that he had not done anything to bring on such horrific suffering as he had experienced, but in doing so, he went too far, arguing that he had not sinned at all, and Elihu brought that up, 

“Surely you have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the sound of your words, saying, ‘I am pure, without transgression; I am innocent, and there is no iniquity in me. Yet He finds occasions against me, He counts me as His enemy; He puts my feet in the stocks, He watches all my paths’” (Job 33:8-11).

 
We know that Job had not done anything to bring on his suffering, but for him to argue that he had never sinned, went beyond what surely he himself knew to be true. However, when in the heat of debate, we often affirm things that with a cooler head, we would never affirm. Therefore, exercise self-control and self-discipline in every issue of life.
