When Hosea had a son, the Lord named the boy Lo-Ammi, meaning,
“Not My People,” for most of Israel had gone into idolatry, and were no longer God’s people because He was no longer their God (Hosea 1:8-9).
Then the Lord said that the number of the children of Israel would be as numerous as the sand of the sea, because,
“it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,‘ [referring to the Gentiles], there it shall be said to them, ‘You are sons of the living God’” (Hosea 1:10).
In time, some of God’s people from the old covenant would return to Him, and again be called God’s people, because they would have become Christians (Hosea 1:11-2:1).
If you are not a disciple of Jesus Christ, you are not part of God’s people, but if you turn to Jesus, die in baptism, live your life and die on this earth for Him, then He will consider you as part of the Israel of God.
