Jesus wept, and He also hungered, because although He was the Son of God, He was also the Son of Man. Thus, one day He wanted to eat figs, and found a tree that advertised itself as having fruit,
Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. In response Jesus said to it,
“Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples heard it (Mark 11:12–14).
As a man, he hungered and found a fig tree with leaves, which meant it should have had fruit, since the fig tree puts out its fruit before its leaves, yet, this tree was fruitless, it no longer served its purpose, and as God, He cursed the tree.
The disciples heard Him, and what were they supposed to think? The rest of the text shows what Jesus wanted them to learn.
