Jewish leaders approached Jesus with good questions as He taught, but they did not have pure motives, not truly wanting honest answers to their questions, but they looked for a way to trip up Jesus,

Then they came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him. And they said to Him,

“By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things?” (Mark 11:27–28).

Questions of authority are good, but what does a person want from those questions? Therefore, have authority for the things you believe and teach, and seek the authority for what others teach, but be sure to accept the answers when you hear them.
