David and his men kept guard for a shepherd’s sheep and his workers, but the shepherd was not willing to help David when he needed it,
Then David said to his men, “Every man gird on his sword.” So every man girded on his sword, and David also girded on his sword. And about four hundred men went with David, and two hundred stayed with the supplies (1 Samuel 25:13).
With four hundred men carrying their swords, it is obvious what David was ready to do, wipe out this shepherd and everyone who belonged to him, including the man’s wife who later became David’s wife.
However, in the rest of the narrative, you will discover that the wife of the shepherd was a wise woman, and she prevented David from slaughtering her family, and when the man did die of his own accord, David and this woman married.
When someone has wronged you, be careful what you propose to do, because you do not want to sin against the Lord, but you want to do what is right.
