Amalekites attacked the city where David and his men lived while they were gone fighting. When David and his men returned they pursued the Amalekites,

So David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away, and David rescued his two wives. And nothing of theirs was lacking, either small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything which they had taken from them; David recovered all. Then David took all the flocks and herds they had driven before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s spoil” (1 Samuel 30:18–20).

David and his men feared that they had lost everyone and everything, but they regained their families and their things, and they also acquired the stuff of the Amalekites.

Sometimes we lose, and sometimes we think that we have lost, but then we regain everything, and much more. The Lord does not guarantee that we shall always recover that which is lost, but keep walking with Him, and see what He does in your life.
