A ruler wanted to know what he had to do to inherit eternal life; Jesus told him to keep the commandments. The ruler said that he had kept all the ones that Jesus had listed,

So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me” (Luke 18:22).

How would you like for Jesus to tell you that you only lack one thing for inheriting eternal life and having treasure in heaven?

That sounds like a compliment, but the one thing the ruler lacked was enough to keep him from eternal life.
