Why did the people kill Jesus, and why do people reject Him today? I suppose there are as many different answers as there are people who reject Him, but in a parable Jesus spoke of men who killed the son of the owner of a vineyard, the owner representing the Father and the son representing Jesus,
“Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect him when they see him.’ But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’ So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?” (Luke 20:13–15).
Some people reject Christ, in particular the people of His generation, because they think they gain something by doing so.
What could a person possibly gain by turning his back on the Son of God?
