Jesus let the apostles know what was coming to Jerusalem,

“And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled” (Luke 21:24).

The Lord had blessed Jerusalem above all the cities of the world, yet, the city had relentlessly persecuted the prophets, and ultimately killed the Son of God.

For all those sins, the Lord would finally send in the Romans who would obliterate the temple and Jerusalem, which happened in the year of our Lord 70.
