Sometimes people forget just who the Lord is, and so they expect Him to meet their expectations, as though He is subject to them.

When Jesus told people following Him to believe on the One whom God had sent, they understood properly that He meant for them to believe in Him,

Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat’” (John 6:30–31).

He had already fed them miraculously, along with other miracles that He did, but they wanted to see more, and they even hinted that what they wanted to see was for Him to provide endless food for them, quoting Scripture to Him to show what God did in the past.

Be careful what you say to the Lord, for if He is the Lord, He does not have to answer to us, but we have to answer to Him.
