The disciples had been with Jesus for three and a half years, but then He spoke of leaving them, and it distressed their hearts. However, He explained,
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you” (John 16:7).
They knew of the wonderful times they had with Jesus. How could things be better for Him to go away? As He explained, if He left, He would send the Helper, the Holy Spirit, implying that if Jesus did not go away, they would not receive the Holy Spirit.
Once they received the Holy Spirit, they changed the world, but they could not see that at the moment. However, they trusted the Lord Jesus, and He took care of things from there.
