Athaliah killed her own grandsons so that she could reign over Judah, but her granddaughter managed to save one of the boys, Joash, and kept him hidden in the temple for six years.
Then when Joash turned seven, Judah made him king, and grandma did not like it when she discovered what had happened,
Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people in the temple of the Lord. When she looked, there was the king standing by his pillar at the entrance; and the leaders and the trumpeters were by the king. All the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets, also the singers with musical instruments, and those who led in praise. So Athaliah tore her clothes and said, “Treason! Treason!” (2 Chronicles 23:12–13).
This grandmother charged the people with treason for making her grandson the rightful king! That shows what power can do to a person.
If you are in a position of power, be careful that you not sin against God or any person.
