After Jesus spent forty days with His disciples after His resurrection, His time on Earth was over, and He returned to heaven,
Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:9–11).
Jesus went to heaven for His coronation, as Peter would bring out several days later (Acts 2.33-36).
In this passage, see the apostles looking up as Jesus leaves them, but read Daniel 7.13, 14 to see Jesus ascending from heaven’s perspective, as Daniel prophesied it would happen.
Also, note that just as assuredly as the Lord Jesus ascended to heaven, so He will descend sometime in the future to retrieve His saints. Are you one of His people, one of His disciples?
