David asked God not to slay the enemy right away, but to disperse them that Israel might learn of God’s power (Psalm 59.9), but then for the things his enemies said, David wanted the Lord to take them in their pride (Psalm 59.10), and said,

Consume them in wrath, consume them,
That they may not be;
And let them know that God rules in Jacob
To the ends of the earth.
Selah
(Psalm 59:13)

When God consumes the enemies of His people, it shows that He rules, not only among His people, but throughout the Earth.

May He then consume those who fight the church!
