What shall we do when we experience trouble? Is it possible to find good in our distresses, so that we actually take pleasure in such? Paul did.
Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 12:8–10).
Paul asked the Lord repeatedly to remove a great distress in his life, but the Lord told the apostle that grace would be sufficient for him, that the problem would remain, because in his problem, the power of Christ would display itself.
Therefore, Paul determined to have pleasure in those troubles that fell upon him, keeping his eyes on Christ, knowing that through troubles Paul could show Jesus to the world.
