As Solomon pictured the love he had for the Shulamite, he showed us this,
How fair is your love,
My sister, my spouse!
How much better than wine is your love,
And the scent of your perfumes
Than all spices!
Your lips, O my spouse,
Drip as the honeycomb;
Honey and milk are under your tongue;
And the fragrance of your garments
Is like the fragrance of Lebanon.
(Song 4:10–11)
The best wine brings the highest prices, but the love he felt from her far surpassed in value the best wine. The aroma of her love exceeded that of all spices of the Earth!
When he heard her speak, it was like honey and milk. Remember this was the Lord’s picture of how He explained the Land of Canaan to Israel, that it was a land flowing with milk and honey, picturing the abundance and goodness of the land. Likewise, Solomon wanted the Shulamite to know he treasured her abundance and goodness.
