The Lord said that He was removing the righteous, yet, it did not occur to anyone to question why they were disappearing (Isaiah 57.1–2). He took them away that they might have rest from evil, but what about those committing the evil? Those who commit evil, namely, ridiculing the righteous, had this fate,
“But come here,
You sons of the sorceress,
You offspring of the adulterer and the harlot!
Whom do you ridicule?
Against whom do you make a wide mouth
And stick out the tongue?
Are you not children of transgression,
Offspring of falsehood,
Inflaming yourselves with gods under every green tree,
Slaying the children in the valleys,
Under the clefts of the rocks?
Among the smooth stones of the stream
Is your portion;
They, they, are your lot!
Even to them you have poured a drink offering,
You have offered a grain offering.
Should I receive comfort in these?”
(Isaiah 57.3–6)
The righteous had rest coming to them, but the ridiculers of the righteous had a place among stones.
Love righteousness and never ridicule the righteous.
