Isaiah 62 paints a beautiful picture of the future of God’s people, seen in the choosing of a new name (v. 2), fulfilled in the name Christian, and the chapter also speaks of the church as Zion and the Lord’s exalting of her,
Go through,
Go through the gates!
Prepare the way for the people;
Build up,
Build up the highway!
Take out the stones,
Lift up a banner for the peoples!
Indeed the Lord has proclaimed
To the end of the world:
“Say to the daughter of Zion,
‘Surely your salvation is coming;
Behold, His reward is with Him,
And His work before Him.’”
And they shall call them The Holy People,
The Redeemed of the Lord;
And you shall be called Sought Out,
A City Not Forsaken.
(Isaiah 62.10–12)
The old city of Jerusalem would find its fulfillment and glory in the new Jerusalem, which is the church, the bride of Christ, and it is for all the peoples of the Earth. The Lord does not forsake this city, but it thrives. Are you part of it?
