Jeremiah sought for any men in Jerusalem who stood for what was right, but his search came up empty. Truly, they were lying about the Lord and about His prophets,
They have lied about the Lord,
And said, “It is not He.
Neither will evil come upon us,
Nor shall we see sword or famine.
And the prophets become wind,
For the word is not in them.
Thus shall it be done to them.”
(Jeremiah 5.12–13)
They did not believe that the Lord was the One who was cursing them, nor did they believe that His prophets spoke the truth, rather the men of Jerusalem, Judah, and Israel believed that the doom of which the prophets spoke would come to the prophets.
Yet, what does history show us? The prophets spoke the truth, and the Lord destroyed Israel and Judah.
Therefore, whatever the Lord says to us in the New Testament is also the truth, and we had better believe it and obey Him.
