After speaking of the character of deacons in the church, and before he would describe them more, Paul inserted this,

Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things (1 Timothy 3.11).

There is some controversy on whether Paul meant the wives of deacons, or deaconnesses, either way, all women in the church should have these qualities, and so should all the men, whether deacons or not.
