The Jews believed that because they had the temple of Solomon in their midst, the Lord would not send the Babylonians against them, but the Lord spoke through Jeremiah, telling them that even as He wiped out Shiloh, where His tabernacle had been, so He would do to Jerusalem,
“And now, because you have done all these works,” says the Lord, “and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear, and I called you, but you did not answer, therefore I will do to the house which is called by My name, in which you trust, and to this place which I gave to you and your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh” (Jeremiah 7.13–14).
We should not trust in anything other than the Lord. He is the foundation of our lives. Even if we lose everything in life, we still have the Lord, and He is the One who gave us everything we have anyway. He can give it again.
