As a preacher, Paul told Timothy that he had to fight and to lay hold of something,

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses (1 Timothy 6.12).

Some people see preachers as weak-kneed men who are supposed to get along with everyone, but Paul did not paint that kind of picture. He showed that a preacher should fight for the faith, and lay hold of eternal life, for that is what our confession entails.
