Since the first covenant had faults, and it was not the Law or the Lord that had the faults, but it was the other half of the covenant, man, represented by Israel. Therefore, the Lord gave us another covenant, but it is different than the old one,
Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD” (Hebrews 8.8–9).
The writer quoted from Jeremiah to make the point, showing that even back then, the Lord had revealed that He would deliver something new. The writer specified which covenant He would replace; it was the one He made with Israel when He took them out of Egypt.
Now, He has made a new covenant with Israel, and with the rest of the world. Praise God for that new covenant!
