What if a righteous man has an unrighteous son? Shall the son reap the rewards of his father’s righteousness? The Lord promised that although the son’s father may have been righteous, the son shall bear the guilt of his own sin,

“If he begets a son who is a robber
Or a shedder of blood,
Who does any of these things
And does none of those duties…
He shall surely die;
His blood shall be upon him.”
(Ezekiel 18.10–13)

Also, note that the Lord does not blame the righteous man for his son’s failings in spiritual things, but the son is responsible for himself.

You are responsible for yourself, and your parents shall not answer for you. Therefore, follow the Lord yourself, and be everything that He wants you to be.
