A woman gave birth to a male child who ascended to heaven. The male child was Christ, and the woman was God’s people, first manifested as the nation of Israel. Then Satan, represented as a dragon, sought to persecute the woman, God’s people, now known as spiritual Israel, which is the church. However, she received help to get away from the dragon, also pictured as a serpent in Revelation 12,

But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent (Revelation 12.14).

She gets away and finds safety in the wilderness, but later we will find that she changes while in the wilderness and becomes something the Lord never intended.
