If we could all be like Abraham with his awesome faith, that would be wonderful, yet, as great as his faith was, he also feared,
And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance. Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, “This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you” (Genesis 12.11–13).
We find out shortly after this in the narration, that Abraham’s fear was unfounded, but he had feared. God had made promises to Abraham that necessitated him living longer, but when he entered a truly unknown situation, he feared, and so he and his wife agreed to this plan to save his life.
Abraham is not the object of our faith, but he teaches us by his life where we should put faith, and that is in the Lord. If we put our faith in a man like Abraham, we will fear, but if we put our faith in the Lord, we shall be strong.
