A Roman centurion expressed his faith in Jesus by explaining that he understood authority, and that he knew Jesus had authority so that whatever He ordered, it would be done. Note the reaction of Jesus,
When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 8.10–12).
You would think that Israel would be the place for great demonstrations of faith, but that was not the case, at least during that time. Therefore, Jesus declared that there will be people from outside of Israel who enter heaven, and people from inside Israel who will see themselves cast out, and will weep and gnash their teeth over it.
