Watch out for greed, because the greedy make greed their god, which they place above family and everything else. The father of Rachel and Leah so coveted that he destroyed his relationship with his nephew/son-in-law and with his daughters. When Jacob expressed to his wives that he had enough of Laban’s ways,

Then Rachel and Leah answered and said to him, “Is there still any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house? Are we not considered strangers by him? For he has sold us, and also completely consumed our money. For all these riches which God has taken from our father are really ours and our children’s; now then, whatever God has said to you, do it” (Genesis 31.14–16).

How sad that their father put money and material possessions above them and above Jacob. Materialism is dangerous. Avoid it at all costs.
