Most people look at the kingdom of heaven, which is the church on Earth, as an option, but the Lord does not see it that way. When He sent out the twelve, they were to preach that the kingdom of heaven was at hand (Matthew 10.7), but then He said,

“And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!” (Matthew 10.14–15).

According to Jesus, rejecting the kingdom of heaven is worse than the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah! Let us all, therefore, seek to be faithful citizens in the kingdom/church.
