Americans are known for their irreverence, but we also need to know that there are times for reverence and protocol, such as when Joseph, who had been in prison, went to meet Pharaoh,

Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh (Genesis 41.14).

He who cannot be reverent, thinks only of himself, but he who knows when to be reverent thinks of others.
