Failing to know history leads to horrible sins

A new king arose over Egypt who did not know the history of Joseph, how he saved Egypt from destruction. Therefore, when this king saw the people of Joseph growing, the king sought to destroy them,

Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; and he said, “When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live” (Exodus 1.15–16).

Women who deliver babies love babies. Killing babies is just not in the blood of midwives. Yet, this pharaoh was so fearful of Israel’s growth that he ordered the deaths of the baby boys.

When a nation does not know history, it will eventually resort to atrocities. Therefore, we must remind people of history by getting to know it ourselves.
