When Moses was 80 years old, the Lord called him to deliver Israel from Egypt, but before he went, he asked permission from his father-in-law,
So Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brethren who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.” Now the Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.” Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the rod of God in his hand (Exodus 4.18–20).
The man Moses never ceases to amaze me. Here he was 80 years old, and he asked his father-in-law politely to leave to go to Egypt, rather than simply saying what he was going to do.
As rudeness grows in our culture, may we all cultivate the spirit of Moses within us that the Lord may use us to deliver people from this present evil world.
