As the Lord spoke to Moses, He revealed that in three days, He would go down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of the Israelites, and they needed to prepare for it,

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people” (Exodus 19.10–11).

Meeting the Lord of heaven and Earth is not like meeting your neighbor down the street! Creatures have to be consecrated to meet their Creator. Today, Jesus made that possible for us, so that in the spirit we might be in the presence of deity.
