The Lord is about peace, which is why He revealed ways for man to deal with his sin, because sin keeps man at war with the Lord, something He does not want. He wants peace. However, when an Israelite brought a peace offering to the Lord, many things and parties were involved,
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘He who offers the sacrifice of his peace offering to the Lord shall bring his offering to the Lord from the sacrifice of his peace offering. His own hands shall bring the offerings made by fire to the Lord…” (Leviticus 7.28–30).
The priest would use the fat and the breast that the Israelite brought as a wave offering before the Lord, and the priest would burn the fat, but eat the breast. Also, the Israelite would give the right thigh to the priest for him to eat (Leviticus 7.31–34).
A sacrifice for peace was made and it would certainly then be a time for eating and rejoicing.
The wave offering and the heave offering, which made the sign of the cross, signaled peace between God and man, fulfilled later in the death of Jesus of Nazareth on the cross.
