Jesus compared the kingdom of heaven and its king to a wealthy man, who traveled to a far country,

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey” (Matthew 25.14–15).

The man knew what he was doing. He had a purpose for traveling. He knew his servants and their abilities. Therefore, he gave to each of them, according to what they were capable of handling, and he fully expected them to increase what he had given them.

Do you see the connection with Jesus and the kingdom of heaven, which is the church? He left Earth and went to heaven, leaving each of us with responsibilities according to our abilities, and one day He will return, and He will want to see what we have done with what He gave us.
