The simple fact of the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth

Sometimes the Gospel writers stated the fact of the crucifixion in few words, simply stating the facts, such as when Matthew wrote,

Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left (Matthew 27.38).

This would have shocked a first century audience, familiar with Roman crucifixion. They would have been reading the narration of Jesus, coming to the belief that He is the Son of God, and then they would have begun to read the horrible treatment the Jews and the Romans gave Him, topped off with crucifixion. Just reading that they made Jesus the epitome of a criminal, crucifying Him between two thieves, and torturing Him to death would have shocked them. How does it affect you?
