The Lord warned Israel not to become what the Canaanites had been, because their abominable nature led the land to vomit them out, and the Lord to abhor them,

“You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them, that the land where I am bringing you to dwell may not vomit you out. And you shall not walk in the statutes of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they commit all these things, and therefore I abhor them” (Leviticus 20.22–23).

If you have ever wondered why the Lord used Israel to destroy the Canaanites, you now have your answer. The Lord has not changed. The land has not changed. Therefore, any other people who do abominable things, shall also offend the land and the Lord, and they shall suffer similar consequences.
