Jesus sent numerous demons out of a man into a herd of swine, and they in turn ran off into the sea and drowned. Those tending the swine went and told others about the incident,
So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. Then they began to plead with Him to depart from their region (Mark 5.14–17).
Rather than rejoicing that the demon-possessed man was now free of that awful torment, and knowing what had happened to the swine, the townspeople asked Jesus to leave. They feared such power. They had undoubtedly feared the demon-possessed man, but when they saw a much greater power, it frightened them, because they did not know if it was for them or against them, since this power destroyed a source of food and income.
What would you have done? Would you have told Jesus to leave, or would you have sought to find out more about who He was?
