The touch of faith

As people thronged Jesus, they touched Him, bumped into Him, and so on, but one woman had been hemorrhaging for twelve years, and she knew that if she could just barely touch Him, she would be healed. She did it. Jesus then asked who touched Him. The disciples could not believe that He asked such a question,

But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction” (Mark 5.31–34).

She did not want to touch a celebrity, but she knew Him to be the Lord, and so believed that touching Him would make her well. It worked! Others may not have been so blessed that day, but she was.

It is for the same reason that some people come to the worship services, but get nothing out of it, they say, and others go and to them it was the most enriching experience of their lives.
